Deep Conditioning Your Hair

So many people don’t know how to properly deep condition their hair, or neglect the practice altogether! Here are few things you must know. Deep conditioning is an essential part of a healthy hair regimen- whether you’re natural or not, and no matter your curl type. Even if you think that your hair is not damaged, incorporating deep conditioning sessions into your regimen on a regular basis will help you stay on track and maintain healthy hair overall. Dry and brittle hair can snap and break with tension, and no one wants to hear the word “breakage”! In order to prevent breakage, you will need to nourish, strengthen, and moisturize your hair. Deep conditioning allows you to improve the elasticity of your hair so that you can prevent breakage.

Always READ THE LABEL because some conditioners will just coat and sit on your hair look for ingredients like Aloe Vera, Coconut oil just to name a few.

When applying your conditioner always start with your ends, because it is the driest and oldest part of your hair and most prone to breakage and splitting. However, starting with the ends of your hair is the most beneficial, because you will allow them a little more time to soak up and adsorb all of the deep conditioning goodness your product has to offer. By following these steps it will restore oils, preventing breakage and split ends.

After applying the deep conditioner, cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic bag and add low heat.  This opens up the cuticle and allows the deep conditioner to penetrate your hair for at least 15 minutes (I Would recommend 15-35.) Moisture is the key to healthy hair. If you suffer from dry scalp and dandruff, then deep conditioning can assist in that department. If you use a moisturizing conditioner like our Olivia’s Deep Moisturizing conditioner which includes certain key ingredients such as essential natural oils, and water, then your hair will thrive.

Rinse out deep conditioner with cool water, which closes the hair’s cuticle and helps the strands retain moisture. And most importantly: Do it REGULARLY (once a week or every 2 weeks) and the results will come slowly but surely because hair growth and repair takes TIME and CONSISTENCY.

Few Things to Remember:

Deep condition your hair on a regular basis, but not daily.

Make sure that you are not over conditioning your hair.

Use a wide tooth comb to detangle

Do Protein Treatment once a month (Very Important)

Use heat when deep conditioning — this will help the conditioner penetrate your hair shaft.

When you apply your conditioner, make sure that you blot off the excess water in your hair. If your hair is too wet, the conditioner will slide off, and it won’t penetrate well.

When rinsing your hair, use cool water. This will close the hair cuticle and keep the moisture in your hair.
